Sale Sharks have announced the signing of Scotland international Josh Strauss ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The 30-year-old has penned a three-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club and will switch from Glasgow Warriors after being part of them since 2012.

The 6ft 7in flanker has also captained Glasgow Warriors and has been an integral part of the Pro 12 side that enjoyed the title win in 2014/15 season.

Sale Sharks rugby director Steve Diamond had high praises for Strauss and is confident of his abilities as the club aims for a better performance next season.

"He has been performing well for both Glasgow and Scotland over the past five years and will compliment the squad in the ball-carrying department," Diamond said.

"He is a leader and a very powerful athlete. The new owners Simon Orange and Ged Mason are keen to help Sale Sharks become one of the leading clubs and signings like Josh will help our cause."

Strauss made his debut for Scotland against Japan in September 2015 and has played 11 Tests for the Dark Blues since then but was ruled out of the ongoing Six Nations tournament after he sustained a knee injury during the game against France.

"Since coming to the UK I always had it in the back of my mind that I wanted to play in the Premiership, which is a highly-rated competition by players in South Africa," said Strauss.

"I signed for Glasgow and needed to sign for a second term in order to qualify to play for the national side. I have really enjoyed my time with the Warriors but I asked my agent to look around in the Premiership for me."
