Former South Africa international Schalk Burger has confirmed that he will part ways with Gallagher Premiership club Saracens at the end of the ongoing season.

Burger, who was part of the 2007 World Cup winning Springboks side joined Saracens in 2016 following his retirement from international rugby and has featured in 41 Premiership games since then.

The 35-year-old stated that he might sign a short-team contract (probably with a Japanese club) at the end of the 2018/19 season before quitting professional rugby.

"I will be finishing up with Saracens at the end of this season and I am looking at all kinds of options to see if they can work out," he told Rugby Pass.

"Retiring completely is also one of the options. We are moving back to Cape Town and if I do anything else playing wise it would be short-term because something like another Premiership season is a big commitment to make"

Burger played 86 Tests for South Africa between 2003 and 2015 and enjoyed stints with Western Province, Stormers and Suntory Sungoliath before joining Saracens.

Saracens are currently at the top of the Premiership table with nine wins from as many games and will line up against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park next on Saturday.
