Russian Women claim European Champion title

Russian Women's sevens team took the centre stage in Malemort after they defeated France 26-5 in the final to win the 2016 Rugby Europe Women's Sevens Grand Prix Series and European Champion titles.

Russia, who had a productive Group stage where they won two out of the three games finished second in Pool C behind Great Britain Royals. However, they picked up in the knock-out stage of the tournament, where they defeated Spain 26-12 and Great Britain Lions 17-10 took book a spot in the finals.

Even though, Charlotte Torres Duxan's early try set the pace for France, Russia emerged victorious with a 26-5 win in order to claim the title.

France, who won the Kazan Sevens title in June finished second in the 2016 Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series and European Championship while Ireland managed Bronze Medal.

Great Britain Lions finished third in the 2016 Rugby Europe Women’s Sevens Grand Prix Series but since they are not a rugby member of Europe, they are not ranked in the European Championship.

Great Britain Royals won the Plate Final after their 15-12 win over Georgia while Italy with a 14-12 win over Belgium claimed the Bowl final. It is also announced that Sweden and Poland will replace Ukraine and Finland in the next edition of the Grand Prix Series following their impressive performances in 2016.
