Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill has signed a contract extension that will keep him with the Pro 14 club until 2021.

The 47-year-old took charge of the Scottish regional club last year after spending 12 years with Leicester Tigers and has straightaway created impact with Edinburgh winning 14 out of the 20 games that saw them positioned third in Conference B in the ongoing season of Pro 14.

Cockerill is delighted by the talent within the club and is confident of making it formidable going forward.

"I saw this as a fresh challenge and have really enjoyed getting stuck in at Edinburgh," said Cockerill.

"There is still a lot to do at the club and I wanted to stay and continue working with a great group of fellow coaches and hard-working players.

"We are building a better squad and a better culture, bit by bit, with the aim of improving results and making us more competitive and consistent.

"The support I've received from Scottish Rugby since I arrived has been first-class and I'm excited about what the future will hold for Edinburgh Rugby if we continue to apply ourselves in the right way."

Edinburgh are set to face 1872 Cup rivals Glasgow Warriors in their next round of Pro 14 Championship on 28th April.
