Cardiff Blues returned to the top of Pool One in the European Challenge Cup in astonishing fashion, running over a hundred points beyond part-timers Rovigo at Arms Park.

The Welsh club scored 16 tries, converting 12 of them, to register a huge 104-12 win - their record European score and winning margin.

Lloyd Williams could not have known what he was starting when he dotted down in the seventh minute and he would score again, with Richard Smith grabbing a hat-trick of tries and Ellis Jenkins a pair.

Also getting over on a humiliating evening for the Italians were Josh Turnbull, Rhys Patchell, Sam Hobbs, Cory Allen, Macauley Cook, Scott Andrews, Kristian Dacey, Gareth Davies and Lewis Jones.

Gareth Davies and Gareth Anscombe kicked the Welsh side's points while Matteo Maran, Francesco Menon and Denis Majstorovic got Rovigo on the scoresheet.

Pointless London Welsh, meanwhile, endured a night to forget in Bordeaux as their Pool Four game in France ended 26-3 to the hosts.

Tristan Roberts' first-half penalty secured Welsh's points with Begles bagging tries through Clement Maynadier, Charles Brousse, Metuisela Talebula and Bertrand Guiry - Pierre Bernard and Lionel Beauxis kicked the points.

Bordeaux are now level with group leaders Edinburgh on 16 points ahead of the Scottish team's trip to Lyon.
