Sharks slumped to a second successive defeat in Australia as their Super Rugby season plunged into further crisis following a 46-14 defeat against Rebels in Melbourne on Friday.

Rebels took complete control of early proceedings as the Sharks missed as many as 12 tackles in the opening quarter.

The Rebels scored six tries through Anaru Rangi (10), Amanaki Mafi (37), Will Genia (55), Bill Meakes (63), Ross Haylett-Petty (67) and Fereti Sa'aga (80)

All the Sharks could muster in response were tries by Lwazi Mvovo (27) and Marius Louw (77).

Tipped to be South Africa's strongest chance at title success, the Sharks now stand at third place in the South African Conference and ninth in the Overall standings.

The Rebels host the Hurricanes in Melbourne next week, while the Sharks will travel to Auckland to play the Blues.
