Centre Paul Bonnefond scored hat-trick of tries as Lyon secured a bonus point 42-12 victory over Newcastle Falcons in their European Challenge Cup clash at Matmut Stadium on Friday.

Flanker Dan Temm got the Newcastle Falcons up and running with a fourth minute try but fly half Brett Connon failed to add the extras.

However, the rest of the first half was dominated by the home team with prop Sami Mavinga (12'), Bonnefond (27') and lock Felix Lambey (34') crossing over and fullback Jerome Porical converted all three of it to take them to 21-5 lead at half time.

Replacement Rob Vickers' try in the 44th minute reduce the gap to 11 points which went down to nine when Connon added the conversion.

However, a double try from Bonnefond and another cross over from replacement Agustin Figuerola in the final 12 minutes ensured Lyon won the game by 30 points. Porical had a good game as well as he converted all six tries.

The win has taken Lyon to second position in Pool 2 with 10 points behind Ospreys while Newcastle Falcons slipped to third position with five points after playing three games.
