Former Scotland international Nick De Luca is set to retire from professional rugby at the end of the ongoing season with the Aviva Premiership club Wasps to pursue a career in coaching.

The 32-year-old has played 43 Test for Scotland between 2008 and 2014 which includes three World Cup games in 2011.

After representing Edinburgh, Border Reivers and Biarritz from 2005 to 2016, the 6 ft centre joined Wasps on a short term deal which was extended later to the end of the 2016-17 season.

De Luca, who can also operate at full-back and wing will become Uppingham School's director of rugby in June.

Wasps rugby director Dai Young was delighted with De Luca's decision to extend his contract till the end of the season.

"We are pleased Nick will be staying with us for the rest of the season; he is a model professional who has done really well each time he has pulled on the Wasps shirt," said Young.

"He has a great attitude and adds a lot to the squad through his international experience."

Meanwhile, De Luca, who already has a sports science degree from Edinburgh university thanked Wasps for their support.

"I am delighted to have extended my stay at Wasps, which was my main goal when I arrived in pre-season, and I really appreciate Dai Young backing me with this contract extension," said De Luca.
