Crusaders prop Joe Moody has penned a new deal with New Zealand Rugby and the province until the end of the 2022 season.

The 30-year-old, who is set to make a comeback from an injury after he was named in the third and final Bledisloe Cup clash against Australia in Yokohama on Saturday started his professional career in 2011 with Canterbury with his debut with Super Rugby side Crusaders coming two years later.

Overall, he has made 67 appearances for Crusaders and has been part of the starting line-up that clinched the Super Rugby title in the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

“I still feel like I have a lot to contribute to rugby here in New Zealand, so at this stage I can’t see myself anywhere else,” he said.

“It’s important to me to stay loyal to the teams that have shown faith in me throughout my rugby career, and I’m loving my time among a world-class forward pack with the All Blacks and the Crusaders.”

Moody's debut for New Zealand came in 2014 and has gone on to play 36 Tests but had a tough time with injuries last year. He was also part of the starting XV that went on to beat Australia in the final at Twickenham to lift the 2015 World Cup.

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen expressed delight on the news and is looking forward to see his return from injury.

“This is fantastic news for New Zealand Rugby, the All Blacks and Crusaders.

“Moods” is one of the best loosehead props in the world, he’s worked incredibly hard on his game over the years and has taken his opportunities when they have come.

“We look forward to his return on the Vista northern tour.”
