We road test Multipower's new 53% Protein bar, boasting high protein content as well as low sugar.

As the name suggests these new 50g bars are 53% protein and features increased protein content and an improved recipe from their last 50% bar.

With 27g protein (equalling the 53% naming of the bar) is made up of both fast and slow acting proteins,

Due to these 2 types of protein the 53% bar provides a sustained release of protein, meaning it can be used between meals or for muscle recovery after training.

53% bar has under 10g of carbohydratres so supports lean muscle, rather than bulking with a heavier carb rich bar.

With only 200 calories per bar and 1.8g of sugar it certainly fits the breif of a lean, low-cal, high-protein bar...

Finally taste: So with the 4 impressive flavours to choose from, because of the high quality, it boils down to personal preference - Chocolate, Coconut, Cookies and Cream or Berry Yoghurt. The flavours will match your anticipations, there's no dusty, cakey, stodgey textures to be found in them, it's just one consistent nougat-style core running through. This pleasant feel in the mouth is reflected in the quality of flavours, Chocolate does what it says on the tin, the Coconut is as close to a Bounty as I've tasted in a protein bar, Cookies and Cream works well, with the Berry Yoghurt trailing in last place in the taste deparement for me (but that's a personal thing) but is by no means unpleasant. If you like the sound of the options, you won't be dissapointed. Contrary the bars the price is a little heavy, I'd like the option of a x12 bars to try, but it's not something that shouldn't put you off if you're in the market for a lean, protein filled snack.

RRP £51.99 – 24 x 50g from Multipower.

Finally taste: And turned out the be really quite! The powder mixes very easily into a smooth relatively frothless drink with no lumpy bits or residue at the bottom of the shaker. Unsure of the benefits the splash brings to the strawberry flavour I tasted but the strawberry falvour was strong and good consistency. Certainly nothing chemical tasting or artificial. If you can afford the asking price, give it a go, see if they can back up their claims.

RRP £64.99 – 2000g from Multipower.
