Coach Michael Cheika has preferred uncapped Adam Coleman over experienced Dean Mumm for the final Test in Sydney on Saturday as the Wallabies prepare for their bid to avoid a 3-0 whitewash against England.

Mumm has earned 46 caps so far in his career with the Wallabies after making his debut in 2008 against Ireland in Melbourne. He was left out from the nine-man extended bench which Cheika named on Thursday.

The Wallabies who are staring at a historic clean sweep after losing the first two Tests in Brisbane and Melbourne, are desperate to avoid the humiliation.

It has been a surprising rise for the 24-year-old Western Force lock, who was a part of the initial Wallabies' 39-man extended training squad before the series. Cheika believes Coleman has earned his place in the matchday 23 after impressing in the training paddock.

"We felt like he needed some work on his fitness and he's run hard and he's trained hard," Cheika told reporters.

"He's really impressed on the training paddock.

"Probably at the start of the week he wasn't in that position and over the training days he's pushed himself into that position.

"If he's given the opportunity to play on Saturday, I know he'll do himself proud."

Fijian-born winger Taqele Naiyaravoro, who his debut against the United States in Chicago last year has also made the bench.
