Wales have drafted Cardiff Blues attack and backs coach Matt Sherratt into their coaching panel for the autumn Tests in November.

Sherratt, who was part of the Rugby Football Union earlier joined as an academy coach at Worcester in 2006 and five years later was appointed as the backs coach for Bristol. In December last year, he went on to join Cardiff Blues and worked under head coach Danny Wilson.

The Welsh Rugby Union confirmed that the 40-year-old will work as Wales' back coach combining with his responsibility with the Cardiff Blues.

With Wales head coach Warren Gatland taking in charge of the British and Lions for the 2017 New Zealand tour, Rob Howley will act as the interim coach after working as the attack coach earlier.

The 45-year-old, expressed his delight to have Sherratt in the coaching panel and believes his experience will be an asset to Wales. Howley also expressed his gratitude to Cardiff Blues for releasing Sherratt for the Tests against Australia, Argentina, Japan and South Africa.

" I am delighted to bring Matt on board to the coaching team. We have a very experienced international coaching team, and I believe Matt will complement what we have in place really well.

"He is young in age, but an experienced coach, and has earned the respect of players and coaches wherever he has been. He will be a big asset to us.

"It is great that we are able to bring a regional coach on board for this period, and I would like to thank Cardiff Blues and (Blues head coach) Danny Wilson for their support and for allowing Matt to work with us.

"He will still have commitments with the Blues during his time with us, but it is a great opportunity for him to experience an international environment and add his input."

Sherratt is looking forward to use the experience of coaching an international team and is confident of it benefitting him when he returns back to Cardiff Blues.

"It's a huge privilege to have the opportunity to join the Wales coaching team and to work alongside the management and the squad for the forthcoming campaign. It is an opportunity I am very excited about, and I'm really looking forward to getting involved this autumn.

"I would hugely like to thank the management at the Blues for allowing me this opportunity. They have been very supportive of the role, and I believe the experience will benefit me as a coach and in turn benefit the Blues."
