Mapoe scores hat-trick as Lions maul Blues

A dominant Lions team romped home to a convincing 43-5 victory over Blues at the Emirates Airline Park on Saturday.

The bonus point victory has also taken Lions to the top of the table in the South African Group after securing 32 points from 10 games.

Rain kept pouring at the Ellis Park and so was the points for the Lions after they scored three tries inside 10 minutes. Warren Whiteley, Courtnall Skosan and Rohan Janse van Rensburg were the contributors. With not much action after that, Lions ended the half-time with a lead of 19 over Blues.

The attack from Lions continued in the second half as they scored four more tries with Lionel Mapoe scoring three of it and Warwick Tecklenburg being the other try scorer.

Blues had no answer whatsoever to the onslaught from Lions with their only point coming in the 73rd minute with a try from replacement Kara Pryor.

The 43-5 victory allowed Lions to top the South African group while Blues are still languishing at the bottom of the New Zealand group.
