Scorecard

Lions came up with a dominant seven try performance as they trounced Rebels with a 10-45 victory in their Super Rugby encounter at AAMI Park on Saturday.

With their ninth win from 10 games this season, Lions are sitting comfortably at the top of Africa 1 Conference while Rebels languish at the bottom of Australian Conference.

After the first 18 minutes went without a score, flanker Kwagga Smith and scrum half Ross Cronje crossed over for Lions in a span of five minutes while a double conversion from Elton Jantjies took them to a 14 point lead.

Even though, Tom English opened Lions account with a 27th minute touchdown, Courtnall Skosan's try at the stroke of half time meant the visitors maintained a 12 point lead at the end of the first half.

Reece Hodge's penalty at the start of the second half brought down the trail to nine points but Sylvian Mahuza (49'), replacement Anthonie Volmink (64') and Warren Whiteley (80') scored further tries along with a penalty try which came through a sin-bin to Culum Retallick saw Lions complete a comfortable 35 point victory.

This is also Rebel's seventh loss this season from nine games.
