Lions back-row Kwagga Smith will miss the remainder of the Super Rugby season following a hamstring injury that he sustained during the recently concluded clash against Hurricanes at Emirates Airlines Park.

The 26-year-old featured in 26 minutes during the game before he was forced off the field.

Smith underwent a scan that revealed a 'grade two injury' which will keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the season.

“A scan done today (Monday) confirms that it is a grade two injury, so he is unlikely to be available for the rest of Super Rugby,” a statement from Lions read.

Lions are positioned third in the South African Conference with eight wins from 15 games and will take on Bulls in the final round at Loftus Versfeld on 15th June.
