Wales centre Jamie Roberts is a doubtful starter for the third Test against New Zealand at Forsyth Barr Stadium after suffering a head injury in the second game in Wellington.

The 29-year-old had a head-on collision with All Blacks' Malakai Fekitoa which left him needing eight stitches in the wound. Despite, the injury, Roberts went on to play until the 78th minute in the game which his team went on to lose by 36-22.

The Harlequins centre will now have to undergo head injury protocols in order to be declared fit for the third and final Test in Dunedin and Roberts is hopeful of clearing it.

"I had a few stitches. It was a nasty knock but I'm feeling alright. My head has taken quite a few knocks over the past decade.

"I got to know Fekitoa quite well 30 seconds into the game and the rest of the game is a bit of a blur. I remember having a clash of heads with Ireland lock Donncha O'Callaghan in Wellington in the World Cup quarter-final in 2011. My head is a weird shape now.

"There is a protocol to follow after a head knock and I am doing that this week. Fingers crossed I will be alright for selection."

In the case of Roberts missing out on Saturday's game, Wales might draft in Scarlets' Scott Williams as a replacement. Wales head coach Warren Gatland will be announcing the team for the final Test on Thursday as they attempt to avoid a series whitewash against All Blacks after losing the first two games.
