England international James Haskell's participation in the Six Nations opener against France is under doubt after he felt discomfort in his foot during last week's training.

The 31-year-old returned back to UK instead of England's training camp in Portugal following his club's decisive European Champions Cup victory over Zebre on Sunday.

Haskell sustained the foot injury during England's tour of Australia last summer where he was named the player of the series despite missing the third Test in Sydney following which he underwent a surgery that kept him out of action for seven months.

On his return for Wasps in the Aviva Premiership encounter against Leicester Tigers, Haskell was knocked out by a tackle from full-back Freddie Burns restricting his comeback game to just 35 seconds.

After missing the Champions Cup game against Toulouse, Haskell featured on Sunday's game against Zebre at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi and was replaced in the 57th minute of the game, which Wasps went on to win 27-41.

"I tried to do the basics well against Zebre. I've obviously got a bit of discomfort in the foot, but you are always going to have that," Haskell told BBC Sport on Monday.

Apart from Haskell, Jack Clifford also failed to report to the training camp in Portugal following an unspecified injury he sustained during the recent European Challenge Cup clash against Stade Francais on Sunday.
