Wasps will miss the services of England international Kyle Eastmond for the remainder of the season due to Achilles tendon injury.

The 27-year-old sustained the blow during the 16th minute of Wasps' recent Aviva Premiership encounter with Gloucester Rugby at Ricoh Arena which his team went on to win 35-22. Eastmond will now undergo a surgery which is expected to keep him out of action for six months.

Wasps rugby director Dai Young expressed disappointment on Eastmond's unavailability and is hopeful of the replacement player to seize the opportunity.

"It is obviously really disappointing for Kyle that he will miss the rest of the season.

"And I really feel for him, because it came at a time when he was really starting to find his feet in this side and get a good run of games under his belt.

"The good news is that the operation was as straightforward as it can be with this type of injury, and that Kyle is expected to make a full recovery, hopefully being back ahead of the new season.

"Kyle will be a big loss for us as we go into this last part of the season.

"But we are lucky to have a very competitive group of backs, and this will give other players the opportunity to step up, which they have consistently done as a group already this year."

Eastmond has played six Tests for England in 2013-14 and joined Wasps in 2016 from Bath.
