Ben Lam scored a brace of tries as the Hurricanes beat the Highlanders 29-12 in an exciting New Zealand derby on Saturday.

Lam (37, 72) struck in the corner at the end of both halves as Beauden Barrett (5) and Vince Aso (64) scored a try each for the hosts,

Barrett managed to convert three out of the four tries as Jordie Barrett scored a penalty on the 48th minute.

In response, Waisake Naholo scored two tries for the visitors with Lima Sopoaga converting one.

The Highlanders were well in the fight at half time trailing by six points, but the 2015 champions were unable to contain the fierce Hurricanes attack in the second-half.

The four-try-to-two margin was not enough for a bonus point and so the Hurricanes will enter the next Super Rugby week on second position in the New Zealand conference, a point behind the defending champion Crusaders.
