Hurricanes reclaim top position with 43-15 win over Sunwolves

Hurricanes 43 - 15 Sunwolves, Wellington

Hurricanes came up with a seven-try riot as they went on trounce Sunwolves 43-15 in their Super Rugby encounter in Wellington on Friday.

The win has taken Hurricanes to the top position in New Zealand Conference while Sunwolves are languishing at the bottom of Australian Conference after losing all their nine games so far.

Hurricanes came up with a bright start when Vince Aso crossed over in the third minute but the try was disallowed due to a forward pass from Julian Savea. The first points though came for Sunwolves when Pieter Labuschagne crossed over beating a tackle from Ardie Savea in the 9th minute with Hayden Parker improving it.

The home side responded back in the 15th minute when Matt Proctor's pass was gathered by Julian Savea and Beauden Barrett's conversion levelled the scores 7-7.

Parker's penalty got Sunwolves back into the lead but back to back tries from Finlay Christie (28') and Reed Prinsep (39') along with a double conversion from Barrett made it 21-10 for Hurricanes at the end of the first half.

Jordie Barrett further extended Hurricanes' lead to 16 points with a touchdown at the start of the second half and the visitors, who struggled to make an impact in the third quarter finally broke the shackles with Kenki Fukuoka dotting down in the 69th minute but a 77th minute try from Brad Shields with a try from Aso on either side sealed a 43-15 victory for the New Zealand regional side.
