Hurricanes managed to overcome a spirited Sunwolves as they registered a 23-29 win in their Super Rugby encounter at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium on Friday.

The win has seen Hurricanes consolidate their second position with 27 points while Sunwolves continue to remain at the bottom of the Australian Conference.

The Japanese side had a terrific start with Hayden Parker (8') crossing over early and the fly-half also kicked a conversion and a penalty to take them to a 10 point lead.

The Hurricanes replied back with a try from TJ Perenara in the 15th minute but it was total domination from Sunwolves in the remainder of the 30 minutes with a 28th minute try from Semisi Masirewa and Parker kicked two penalties and a conversion on either side to take the scoreline to 23-7.

As the break was approaching, Fletcher Smith kicked his maiden penalty to cut down the gap to 13 points heading into the second half.

With Sunwolves struggling to score a point in the second half, tries from Ben Lam (48'), Chase Tiatia (59') and Wes Goosen (68') proving just enough as Hurricanes completed a six point win - their sixth win from nine games.
