A late penalty from Finn Russell helped Glasgow Warriors edge out Cardiff Blues 19-20 in a thrilling Pro 14 encounter at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday.

The Blues started the game with a lot of intensity as Tom James crossed over in the seventh minute while Steve Shingler slotted a conversion and a double penalty to take them to 13 points but Dave Rennie's men bounced back through a touchdown from Henry Pyrgos with Russell kicking a penalty and a conversion on either side to bring down the gap to three points.

Even though Shingler opened the second half with his third minute penalty as Cardiff increased their lead to six points but the momentum was taken back by Glasgow when Lee Jones went past the line in the 42nd minute and Russell was spot on with the conversion once again.

Shingler's fourth penalty that came in the 47th minute helped Cardiff Blues restore a two point lead as the game was heading for a tight finish with a scoreline of 19-17.

A late penalty from Russell in the 67th minute titled the game in favour of the visitors as they took a one point lead - that they maintained till the end of the game to register their third consecutive win this season under Rennie.
