Glasgow Warriors centre Sam Johnson is confident that his club can go on to win the European Champions Cup after a fabulous start to the season.

Warriors under their new head coach Dave Rennie have gone on to win all the six games in the ongoing Pro 14 season and now will travel to Sandy Park to take on the Aviva Premiership champions Exeter Chiefs in the Champions Cup opener on Saturday.

"You've got to be confident, and you want to win it," he said. "We play this game to win trophies, and it's a first step this weekend towards that.

"We have to be confident, we can't just say 'we're playing well' - we want to win it.

"We haven't really spoken about it, but the boys are talking in the sheds and morale is high.

"We just have to keep going through the processes and play good footy."

Rob Baxter's side meanwhile clinched their maiden English Premiership title last season and are also on a roll this season with four wins from six games and are positioned second in the Aviva Premiership table behind Saracens.

He added: "This weekend will be a good test for us won't it?

"Exeter were the Premiership champions last season and it will be a real test and we just have to go out there all guns blazing and blow them off the park."

When asked how well equipped the squad was ahead of the demands of the competition, Johnson said: "Very well, depth is a major thing that the coach is harping on about this year.

"A couple of good signings here already, and some more still to come so that's probably the major difference this year, is the competition for places."
