Ireland international Fergus McFadden will miss the European Champions Cup final for Leinster against Racing 92 at San Mames Stadium on Saturday following an injury.

The 31-year-old sustained the blow during the semi-final against Scarlets last month after scoring Leinster's third try and now is set to miss the remainder of the season for the Irish regional side. His participation for Ireland's summer tour is also under doubt.

“It’s a huge blow for him,” Leinster coach Stuart Lancaster said.

“He played so well and fought his way back into form and fought his way into the team in a really competitive position.

“We’re blessed we’ve got a lot of players in that position but we’re really disappointed for him."

Despite the setback, Leinster will be boosted by the return of scrum-half Luke McGrath from an ankle injury and he is on track to face the French club on Saturday.

"We’re pretty optimistic now. He trained last week on the Tuesday and the Wednesday and there’s been no reaction to that.

“Having Luke come back into the equation, he’s an experienced player, we’ve got some decisions to make there."
