The organisers of European Professional Club Rugby have announced the changes in qualification of Pro 12 clubs effective from 2018/19 season.

The current scenario allows one team each from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Italy a guaranteed qualification for the European Champions Cup.

However, from the 2018/19 season the top seven teams irrespective of the nation will make it to the top European tournament giving priority to merit.

The scenario applies only for Pro 12 clubs as the qualification for English Premiership and Top 14 clubs will continue based on highest ranked clubs. European Challenge Cup winner will also now be qualifying automatically for the Champions Cup as well.

"These changes are designed to strengthen both the Champions Cup and the Challenge Cup," EPCR director general Vincent Gaillard said.
