England Students faced their Welsh counterparts on Wednesday evening at the Caerphilly Centre of Sporting Excellence.
Wales proved to be a tough challenge especially in the opening periods of both halves, capitalising on some of England’s errors. However, England managed to edge ahead in the last quarter to take the win with five tries to three.
“The character shown by the players was exceptional,” said Head Coach Aaron James. “We were disappointed with some of our execution and the general ball retention, however we scored some well worked tries, as did Wales.”
“Particularly pleasing was the debut performance of Sam Waltier,” said Assistant Coach Ian Davies. “He kept the team moving forward throughout the match.
“Although he has played well throughout the campaign I thought Captain Freddie Clarke really stamped his authority on the match and demonstrated why he has secured a contract in the RFU Championship for next season.”
