Edinburgh prop Pierre Schoeman has been handed a four-week suspension following his red-card incident during the Pro14 game against Leinster last weekend in Dublin.

The former South Africa Under 20 international was sent-off in the 71st minute of the game after making contact with the head of Dan Leavy when carrying the ball and was charged with a breach of Law 9.12.

Schoeman appeared before a three-person disciplinary committee that comprised of Simon Thomas, Roger Morris and Nigel Williams and was proved guilty of the charges.

As a result, the 24-year-old was handed mid-range sanctions of a six-week ban that was reduced by two weeks due to mitigating factors.

Schoeman will now miss Pro14 league matches against Benetton and Cheetahs and will also be out of contention for Edinburgh's first two opening games in the Heineken Champions Cup.

Edinburgh are already enduring a tough time in the ongoing season of Pro14 having lost three out of the four games played as they are languishing at the bottom of the Conference B table.
