British and Irish Lions assistant coach Neil Jenkins has indicated that Wales duo of Jonathan Davies and Ross Moriarty could make it in time for the clash against Maori All Blacks on Sunday after recovering from their respective injuries.

Scarlets centre Davies sustained a head injury during Lions' 3-12 win over Crusaders in Christchurch last Saturday while Moriarty, who has been capped 17 times for Wales suffered a back problem following their 7-13 scratchy win over New Zealand Provincial Barbarians in the tour opener at Toll Stadium.

"Jonathan is still going through protocols but hopefully he'll be back in training (on Thursday) and we'll see from there," said Jenkins.

"Ross has been back in training doing a little bit of running, and hopefully he'll come through as well."

Jenkins also revealed that England international Courtney Lawes is unlikely to recover from a head injury that he sustained during their defeat to Highlanders on Tuesday.

"Courtney's been okay today but it's the same as always with head injuries - the protocols and see how he goes for the rest of the week," said Jenkins.

"He's a tough old character, he wanted to walk off the pitch, albeit with a bit of help. But the likelihood is he will miss the weekend."

The Lions will have two more tour games against Maori All Blacks and Chiefs before they take on New Zealand in the first Test in Auckland and Jenkins lavished praise on skipper Sam Warburton, who is on the path in recovery from an ankle strain.

The former Wales captain scored a try in the 52nd minute against Highlanders but could not prevent his team from succumbing to a 23-22 defeat.

"Tuesday was certainly better from Warby (Warburton), and it was nice for him to get a run-out," said Jenkins.

"There were quite a few turnovers from him. For Sam now it's just about keeping getting game time if he can.

"I don't know what the outcome will be on the weekend, but it was a big improvement from him, and the more game time he plays the better he's going to be.

"Sam's a top-end player, a quality, world-class seven, but again it's the same as anything, you need to be playing to keep getting yourself back up to the levels that you need to.

"Warby would be the first to be admitting that, there's no doubting that, but he had a much, much better game (on Tuesday) and he'll keep improving, there's no doubt."
