South African prop Danie Mienie has made a return to Super Rugby after he was signed by Lions for the 2019 season.

Mienie made his Super Rugby debut with Sharks in 2012 and switched to Cheetahs in 2015 before joining French club Toulouse in 2017. He has also represented Kimberley-based side Griquas in 2015.

The 27-year-old's addition will be a relief for Lions after they lost the services of Jacques van Rooyen and Ruan Dreyer to Premiership clubs Bath and Gloucester at the end of the 2018 season.

Lions are yet to win their maiden Super Rugby title despite being in the finals for the last three seasons with two of their losses coming against Crusaders in 2017 and 2018 editions.
