Sale Sharks 19-10 Harlequins, AJ Bell Stadium
Scorecard

Fly-half Dan Mugford added 14 points as Sale Sharks secured their first victory of the Aviva Premiership season after defeating Harlequins 19-10 at AJ Bell Stadium on Friday.

Playing in his first season of the English Premiership, Mugford missed a match-winning penalty in the previous game against Newcastle Falcons, however, the 25-year-old added four penalties and a conversion to ensure Sale Sharks opened their account in the tournament.

Sale Sharks made full use of the Quins' reckless play in the first 20 minutes as Mugford added three penalties to take the scoreline to 9-0.

Harlequins bounced back with former England captain Chris Robshaw scoring a try in the 25th minute while fly-half Nick Evans added the conversion as the first half ended with a 9-7 lead to Sale Sharks. The Quins failed to capitalise on the sin-bin to Jonathan Mills just before the half-time.

After a quite eight minutes of play into the second half, Owen Evans was sin-binned for stopping the maul illegally following which David Seymour touched down in the 50th minute to extend the lead of Sale Sharks.

Mugford added a conversion and a penalty to take Sale Sharks to a 19-10 lead and with Mat Luamanu handed a red card in the 70th minute, Harlequins chances of a fightback diminished and eventually succumbed to a nine-point defeat.
