Prop Zander Fagerson credited Scotland's victory over Ireland in the Six Nations opener at Murrayfield last weekend to their preparations.

Skipper Greig Laidlaw hit two penalties in the final 10 minutes to resist a strong comeback from Ireland and secure a thrilling five-point win for the Dark Blues.

Earlier, it was fullback Stuart Hogg, who laid the foundation for the victory with a double try in the first quarter which was followed by another touchdown from centre Alex Dunbar.

The 21-year-old revealed that there was a positive vibration among the squad which was built during the training camp and it reflected in their performance against Ireland.

"We had a lot of confidence in camp during the week," the 21-year-old said. "We've got a lot of depth coming through and training has been at a real high standard. That's been spurring the whole team on.

"Training has gone up another level, so I think that was transferred into Saturday's performance.

"In the first half, we were pretty clinical, especially with the backs. They were pretty good, the forwards weren't at their best."

Scotland will now travel to Stade de France to take on France on Sunday and the Glasgow Warriors prop urged the team to guard against any complacency when they take on Guy Noves' men, who came close to defeating England in their opening game.

"We've just won one game," he said. "We can't get ahead of ourselves. But it does give us confidence we can go out there and put a result down.

"The autumn was good. We should have beaten Australia but didn't see it out.

"But to see out Saturday's win was perfect. I really enjoyed it. This group can do something special and it would be good to give Vern a good send off in the Six Nations."
