Patrick Lambie is in danger of missing the action for the remainder of the year after reports emerging of the fly-half unable to recover from a concussion.

The 26-year-old first suffered a head injury during the home Test series against Ireland in June when he struck by CJ Stander following which he was sidelined for four months.

Even though, Lambie returned for the November Tests for the Springboks, he sustained another blow on his head earlier this year while playing for his Super Rugby side Sharks.

Sharks CEO Gary Teichmann on Monday stated that Lambie is unlikely to return to action for the remainder of the year.

Even though, World Rugby has revised the rules dealing with head injuries, the concussions is also on the rise. A study of the 2015-2016 Premiership season by the Rugby Football Union showed that concussions accounted for 20% of all injuries to the ball carrier and 47% of all injuries to the tackler (defender).

Former South Africa lock Alistair Hargreaves, ex-Ireland prop Nathan White and former New Zealand lock James Broadhurst are the latest to end their career due to concussion related issues.
