Chris Ashton is set to exit French club Toulon and return back to the Premiership in a bid to seek a place in Eddie Jones' England squad for the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

The 31-year-old switched from Saracens to Toulon last season but now is seeking an early release from the French club according to RMC SPORT despite two years of contract left.

Ashton is in prolific form and ended the last season of Top 14 as the leading try-scorer with 24 touchdowns.

He also scored a hat-trick recently at Twickenham Stadium when he helped Barbarians to a 45-63 win against England at the end of May.

Ashton has played 39 Tests for the red rose team but his last appearance for the team came in June 2014.
