Saracens wing Chris Ashton admitted that he wants to use the limited opportunities available to impress Warren Gatland ahead of the British and Irish Lions squad announcement on 19th April.

Following the Allianz Park outfit's 53-10 win over Bath, Saracens rugby director Mark McCall backed Ashton to be part of the Lions squad after he amassed two tries in the final 10 minutes

The 29-year-old is set to move Toulon at the end of the ongoing season and is hoping to make his performance count against Glasgow Warriors in the upcoming European Champions Cup quarter-final, which he sees as an audition for the Lions selection.

"My missus is closer to what's happening with the Lions than me! It would be nice but it's a very big ask. There are a lot of good wingers playing in the Six Nations," Ashton said.

"But I have some big games coming up and they're my opportunity. It's announced on the 19th so I haven't got that many.

"At the minute I am moving house when the tour is on, but we will see. I can book a van for a different week!"

Ashton's last appearance for England came in June 2014 and his chances of representing the red rose has diminished further following this decision to move to France. The former England Saxons wing admitted that he had moved on from his hopes of representing the national team again.

"Making the decision to move on has definitely made it easier for me without a doubt. Now I can watch England as a fan, but not in pub where I get a bit of abuse if it's full!"
