Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson has announced his decision to withdraw from the upcoming Wales tour of Pacific Islands due to increasing commitments with the Pro 12 club.

Wilson was named alongside Matt Sherratt and Stephen Jones as assistant coaches when Robin McBryde takes in charge of the team during the summer tour in the absence of Warren Gatland and Rob Howley, who will be busy with Lions commitments.

Wilson's decision to stay focussed with Cardiff Blues follows the decision of team rugby general manager Billy Millard to exit the club at the end of the ongoing season.

The news was confirmed by McBryde in a statement released by Welsh Rugby Union.

"It would have been great to have Danny on tour with us, but we fully appreciate and understand his position

"It was a tough decision for him to make, but we would like to thank him for doing so at an early enough juncture for it not to hinder our preparation for the tour."

Wales will lock horns with Tonga in Auckland on 17th June followed by a clash against Samoa in Apia on 24th June with the squad expected to be named next Tuesday.
