Former Exeter Chiefs fullback Byron McGuigan has been signed by Sale Sharks on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old made six appearances for the Scotland sevens team in 2011-12 and is flexible to be used in a number of positions across the back-line.

McGuigan's professional rugby career started with the South African rugby union team Border Bulldogs in 2010 and later moved to Glasgow Warriors in 2012. He has also played for the Bay of Plenty and Scotland A teams.

His debut with the English Premiership began in 2014 when he signed a one-year deal with Exeter Chiefs playing 10 Aviva Premiership games where he scored a solitary try after starting in just two games.

McGuigan said he is looking forward to be part of the 2005-06 English Premiership Champions.

"It's a great opportunity for me as it is a club with great ambition," he told BBC Sport.

"It's awesome to come here, Manchester is a lovely city so I'm excited to start."

Sale Sharks begin their upcoming Aviva Premiership season against the Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park on 2nd September. In the 41 games played between them, Newcastle have won 23 games while Sale Sharks have won the remaining 18.
