Brumbies 41-31 Sunwolves, GIO Stadium
Scorecard

Brumbies overcame a late surge from Sunwolves as they registered a 41-31 victory in their Super Rugby encounter at GIO Stadium on Sunday.

The home side dominated the first 15 minutes with David Pocock and Lachlan McCaffrey scoring tries in the seventh and 12th minutes respectively. Christian Leali'ifano kicked a conversion as Brumbies managed 12 unanswered points.

Hayden Parker got Sunwolves off the mark in the 24th minute but two minutes later Brumbies scored their third with Thomas Banks crossing over this time.

Nevertheless, the visitors managed to narrow down the gap to nine points before the break with Jason Emery diving past the line from close range and Parker slotted the conversion.

The home side extended their momentum in the second half as well with Hencus van Wyk dancing past the post but Andy Muirhead negated his effort with his response coming two minutes later.

The Brumbies got firm control of the game with back to back tries coming from Speight (54') and Thomas Cusack (58') - both not converted - as they increased their lead to 17 points and it proved enough despite Sunwolves managing two more tries in the final 10 minutes from Ed Quirk and Harumichi Tatekawa.

This is fifth win for Brumbies from 13 games as they consolidate their third position in Australian Conference that also has Sunwolves languishing at the bottom with just two victories from as many games.
