Melbourne Rebels centre Billy Meakes will appear before an independent disciplinary panel after he was cited for a dangerous tackle following the recently concluded Super Rugby game against Sunwolves at AAMI Park.

The incident happened during the start of the third quarter when Meakes had a dangerous tackle on Sunwolves centre Jason Emery in the game which was won by the Australian side 42-15.

Even though the 28-year-old was let off by the on-field referee during the time of the incident as it was not deemed serious enough but the citing commissioner felt otherwise.

Meakes has not been charged for a breach of Law 9.13 that deals with “A player must not tackle an opponent early, late or dangerously. Dangerous tackling includes, but is not limited to, tackling or attempting to tackle an opponent above the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the line of the shoulders.”

The Rebels currently hold the pole position in Australian Conference with five wins from seven games and will take on Stormers in Round 9 at AAMI Park on 12th April.
