Rugby Australia has confirmed that fly-half Bernard Foley has signed a new deal with the Wallabies until the end of 2019.

The deal means the 29-year-old has committed to feature for the Wallabies in the next year's World Cup and also in the 2019 Super Rugby season for Waratahs.

Foley has played for Australia 64 times since making his debut in 2013 and has racked up over 100 appearances for Waratahs after joining them in 2011.

He said the desire to win the World Cup for Wallabies has motivated him to sign the deal.

"The World Cup is obviously a major carrot and I've got a lot of belief in this group that, if we continue to work hard and focus on improving every day, then we can push deep into the competition."

Post World Cup, Foley might consider a move to northern hemisphere but Wallabies head coach Michael Cheika believes otherwise.

"I'm very happy that Bernard has signed on but I don't believe this will be his final year in Australian rugby," Cheika said.

"He has set himself a big challenge by going from year-to-year and I am sure he'll meet it.

"I know he wants to play to his absolute potential and lead the current group into what is a big 2019, with the World Cup just around the corner."
