Exeter Chiefs 7-13 Bordeaux Begles, Sandy Park
Scorecard

Exeter Chiefs continue to search for their first win in this season of European Champions Cup as they suffered a 7-13 defeat to Bordeaux Begles at Sandy Park on Sunday.

A game witnessed by England coach Eddie Jones went without a point for the first 29 minutes following which scrum half Jack Maunder scored the opening try for the home team allowing fly-half Gareth Steenson to add the conversion.

Bordeaux Begles scrum half Baptiste Serin reduced the gap to four points when he added a penalty just before the half time.

Serin took it further in the second half as he crossed over in the 56th minute to bring Bordeaux Begles in the lead for the first time and fly half Ian Madigan added the conversion.

Replacement Lionel Beauxis added another penalty for the visitors to stretch their lead to six points with Exeter Chiefs failing to add any point in the second half.

The six point win has taken Bordeaux Begles to second position in Pool 5 while Exeter Chiefs languish at the bottom of the table.

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter lamented on his team's inability to make use of the chances presented to them.

"We had more opportunities to score but just didn't take them.

"Our frustration at not scoring got the better of us. In the end we gave Bordeaux the chance to go and score their try.

"Mathematically we're not dead but realistically it is going to be hard for us to progress.
