Vince Aso scored a hat-trick as Hurricanes ran a nine-try riot to defeat Cheetahs by 61-7 in their Super Rugby encounter at Westpac Stadium on Saturday.

Vaea Fifita (16'), Aso (19') and Ardie Savea (38') scored tries in the first half with All Blacks international Beauden Barrett adding conversions on all three occasions to take Hurricanes to 21 points at the end of the first half.

Fly-half Fred Zeilinga's converted try in the 24th minute remained the only points for Cheetahs in the game as they trailed first half by 14 points.

Following a 43rd minute sin-bin to Cheetah's Elandre Huggett, TJ Perenara (45'), Aso (46' and 61'), Jeff Toomaga-Allen (56'), Ben Lam (69') and Leni Apisai (73') all strolled past the post with Barrett adding two extras while Otere Black kicking three more conversions to secure a 54 point victory for Hurricanes.

Hurricanes are positioned second in New Zealand Conference while Cheetahs are positioned third in Africa 1 Conference.
