Registrar Nicholas Briggs has dismissed the application requesting for the winding up of RFU Championship club London Welsh.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Custom (HRMC) had applied for the winding up of the Exiles following the club's move to enter into liquidation at the end of the last year.

During a hearing conducted at Bankruptcy & Companies Court in London, HRMC claimed that London Welsh owed more than £90,000 in tax.

They are already reeling at the bottom of the table in the ongoing RFU Championship after they were docked 20 points following their move to enter voluntary liquidation and are struggling to complete the remaining fixtures of the season.

It was in December, the club chairman Gareth Hawkins announced the decision to enter liquidation.

He said there was ''no alternative''.

''London Welsh has reached a difficult point in its illustrious history,'' said Mr Hawkins in a statement posted on the club's website.

''Due to a playing budget of £1.7million and gates at games numbering as low as 400, the club's current business model is totally unsustainable.

''The debts accrued from trading in this way have left the club with no alternative but to seek liquidation.''

There was also a statement released by the club earlier this month where the players and coaching staffs thanked the people for their donation to keep the club afloat.
